Mum has been telling me to make this for myself for ages but I Guess I kept thinking it is too troublesome and never got round to it.
I finally got round to doing it because she got fed up and made me a bowl to sample and gave me a jar of roasted walnuts (she would have given me the black sesame too if I had not revealed that I bought the black sesame last year and it’s been sitting in my cupboard waiting for me to do this).
It was delicious! So good that yes, I will never order in restaurants again. And yes, so easy. No soaking, no mashing. Just measure, pour into my soy maker and press a few buttons. In under 30minutes, ta-da! My piping hot bowl of black sesame walnut paste is ready. No soaking, no fillers, no starch, no additives. Actually mummy uses almonds and cashews too. But because I am low on those, I just used walnut and sesame.
The past week, I have made this 3 times. It is easy to make it then store in fridge and heat up whenever you want to eat it (or consume it cold). It is a handy snack for my athletic husband as it is rich in protein and minerals. And so easy to consume without feeling too heaty.
High in omega fatty acids, polyunsaturated fats, calcium, potassium, magnesium, phosphorus and rich in fibre. It is also rich in iron and Vitamin B, thus fantastic for people suffering from anaemia. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, black sesame is great for kidney, hair and bones. It is also good for people with yin deficiency and constipation. It is also very good for regulating blood pressure.
Whereas walnuts is good for nourishing the brain and kidney. It is rich in antioxidants, a good source of omega 3 fatty acid, regulates blood pressure and helps to manage type 2 diabetes. It also promotes a healthy gut and reduces inflammation. Studies also show that it helps to reduce risk of breast and prostate cancer. Need we say more?
Black beans are also super foods, and even more if sprouted. Sprouting the beans allows for easier absorption into our system and is known to strengthen our kidneys, hair and liver health. It is also a good source of folic acid which helps us to produce more healthy red blood cells. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, black beans is used to nourish kidney, encourage black hair and other anti-aging purposes.
If you do not want to add the black bean powder, you can reduce the water by 250ml and replace with a glass of milk.
So here is the ridiculously simple recipe to this goodness.
